Equal parts artist and activist, Sarah has established herself as one of world cinema’s most distinct voices. Fearless and unflinching, Sarah’s sensibilities and approach to filmmaking uniquely excavate life’s struggles, secrets and inner strengths.
Seen through her lens, “normal” is nothing more than a beautiful façade waiting to be examined. Starting her career as an actress in her native Canada at the age of four, starring in films such as The Sweet Hereafter and Go, Sarah quickly grew into an Academy Award nominated writer and film director with her debut feature, Away from Her. With her second film, Take This Waltz and her deeply personal documentary, Stories We Tell, Sarah would come to be known for her quietly brave style and her films' intimate and compassionate feel.
Sarah’s work as a writer and director also expands into television, having written and produced the limited series adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s Alias Grace for Netflix. Sarah is currently in post-production on her next film, Women Talking, starring Frances McDormand, Rooney Mara, Claire Foy and Jessie Buckley.
