As an Academy Award-winning actor and acclaimed filmmaker, Regina's work powerfully captures our cultural zeitgeist—socially, politically, and artistically. The films she directs and the characters she portrays, both in features and television, critically examine our history, confront societal biases, and inspire us to envision a better future by acknowledging our past.

Regina’s first feature film, One Night in Miami, showcases her exceptional ability to translate powerful, thought-provoking narratives for the big screen. Her directing work masterfully brings to life a fictionalized meeting between four iconic figures—Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, and Sam Cooke—exploring their roles in the civil rights movement. The film, which earned her three Oscar nominations,  underscores Regina’s talent behind the camera as well as her commitment to stories that resonate with contemporary social issues.

Regina’s hit television work includes directing multiple episodes of Being Mary Jane, Scandal, The Catch, Animal Kingdom, This Is Us, and Shameless. Her work reflects a keen understanding of character-driven narratives and brings together a unique blend of emotional depth and visual storytelling. Most recently Regina executive produced and directed the Netflix limited series A Man in Full featuring Emmy Award winner Jeff Daniels and based on Tom Wolfe’s novel.

Regina’s upcoming projects include the feature film adaptation of Bitter Root, based on the eponymous comic book series merging monsters and racism during the Harlem Renaissance; and the Netflix series Forever,  based on Judy Blume's novel exploring the journey of two Black high schoolers in Los Angeles as they navigate the complexities of first love amidst societal and parental expectations.

Regina also continues to excel in front of the camera.  In addition to winning the Academy Award for If Beale Street Could Talk,  Regina starred as the title character in Shirley, a biopic about Shirley Chisholm, America's first African American woman congresswoman who ran for President. Regina has also earned multiple Primetime Emmy Awards for her work in series such as American Crime and Watchmen. Other notable film and television roles include Jerry Maguire, Ray, Enemy of the State, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, A Cinderella Story, Boyz n the Hood, Southland, and The Leftovers.

Regina is excited to expand her storytelling to commercials, branded content and collaborations. Most recently the Metropolitan Museum of Art invited Regina, along with other esteemed guest directors Martin Scorsese, Tom Ford and Chloé Zhao, to create an original film for the museum’s survey exhibition, In America: An Anthology of Fashion.
